Both the Samford University men's and women's basketball teams will compete in the Southern Conference Tournament this weekend in Asheville, N.C.
The fifth-seeded men's team will open the tournament against 12th-seeded Furman Friday at 1 p.m. (CT) at the U.S. Cellular Center. Air time on ESPN 97.3 The Zone will be 12:45 p.m.
The Samford men's team enters the tournament with a record of 11-20 overall and 9-9 in Southern Conference play.
The women's team, which earned the sixth seed for the tournament, takes on 11th-seeded Wofford on Friday at 3 p.m. (CT) at UNC Asheville's Kimmel Arena. The pre-game show on WVSU-FM 91.1 will begin at 2:45 p.m.
The Bulldog women's team is currently 14-15 overall and 11-9 in league play.
The first two rounds of the women's tournament will be held at Kimmel Arena, while the semifinals and finals will be at the U.S. Cellular Center. The entire men's tournament will be at the U.S. Cellular Center. The quarterfinals for both tournaments will be held on Saturday, with the semifinals set for Sunday and the championship games scheduled for Monday.
All men's games throughout the tournament will be broadcast on ESPN 97.3. Women's games will be broadcast on WVSU, although a Sunday women's semifinal game would be broadcast on ESPN 97.3 to allow for the baseball Bulldogs' Sunday game at The Citadel to be broadcast on WVSU.
The Southern Conference is the fourth oldest conference and has the oldest tournament in the NCAA. The first tournament was played in 1922 and won by the University of North Carolina.
