Visual Arts and Dance Events To Showcase Student Artists Starting April 2

Posted on 2013-03-25 by Sean Flynt (205) 726-4197
It’s time for our wonderfully talented students to show how they’ve grown artistically over the last year or, in the case of our graduating seniors, over their entire Samford careers. Please come out to support them in their exhibits and performances!

The Samford Art Student Annual Juried Show will open in Samford Gallery April 2 and continue through April 26. You’re welcome to view the work any weekday 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., but we also hope you’ll join us for the reception and award ceremony 4-6 p.m. April 25. This showcase for our visual arts students never fails to impress and inspire!momentum

The Michael J. and Mary Anne Freeman Theatre and Dance Series will present Momentum: A Dance Concert, April 4-6 at 7:30 p.m. and April 7 at 2:30 p.m. in Harrison Theatre.

Momentum features original choreography by students and faculty in a wide variety of dance styles. From hip-hop to classical ballet, swing to modern, Samford students show their love for life through dance.

This year's dance concert features two senior projects centered on faith. In "The Seven Deadly Sins", choreographer Adrienne Giordano offers a suite of dances portraying a young woman's struggle with and vanquishing of sin with the help of a guardian angel. Lauren Taunton's "Commission" focuses on a young woman's awakening to the call of Jesus to spread His word, and her acceptance of this mission to join the army of God.

Led by Coordinator of Dance Lisa Gibbs, the annual dance concert is the final project by students of DANC 401, Choreography, a required class for musical theatre majors and dance minors. Samford theatre majors also are part of the production, working as costume designers, lighting designers and stage managers.
