Samford University's School of the Arts
will present an evening of classical guitar music with the Nashville-based
Godwin-Thompson Duo Nov. 10. This second event in the university's 2009-2010
Davis Architects Guest Artists Series will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Samford's
Brock Recital Hall.
The Godwin-Thompson
Duo performs nationally, has recorded two critically acclaimed albums and
has been featured on National Public Radio and on television in the US and
abroad. In addition to their duo work and individual performances and projects,
Mark Godwin and duo partner Robert Thompson serve on the faculty of Belmont
University in Nashville.
The Samford concert will feature works by
Torroba, Piazzola, Debussy, Albéniz,
Bocherinni and others. The concert also will premiere “Danza Cubana,” a new
work by Mark Godwin.
The concert represents a homecoming for
Godwin, who will perform at his Alma Mater for the first time since his 1983
graduation as the university's first guitar performance major.
Individual concert tickets are available
for $20 (adults,) $15 (age 55+,) and $10 (students and children). Series season
tickets are $75 (adults,) $60 (age 55+,) and $40 (students and children).
