Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School will host its 23rd annual Pastors School July 19-23.

“Respite,” as in the sense of rest and a refreshing interval from life and work--ministry included, is the theme of this year’s series of lectures, workshops and worship services.

Daily Bible teacher James Earl Massey will lead morning studies on the topic “The Book of Hebrews: Jesus and the Believer.” Dr. Massey, dean emeritus and distinguished professor-at-large of Anderson University School of Theology, is author of The Burdensome Joy of  Preaching, Preaching magazine’s 1998 Book of the Year.

Other speakers are Alistair Begg, author, Truth for Life broadcaster and senior pastor at Parkside Church in Cleveland, Ohio; Steve Brown, Key Life radio broadcaster, author and preaching professor at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Fla.; Christian George, a Beeson graduate whose five books include Sacred Travels and Sex, Sushi and Salvation; and Haddon Robinson, preaching professor and doctor of ministry program director at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Denise George, Carolyn McKinstry and Vickie Gaston will lead a women’s track on the theme, “Can you drink from this cup?”

Workshops on dozens of topics will follow basic themes of Bible and theology, Christian living and spirituality, ministry and leadership, and preaching and worship.

Beeson preaching professor Dr. Robert Smith and Reginald Calvert, pastor of New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Birmingham, will lead a pre-conference preaching workshop beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 19. The theme will explore biblical and theological perspectives of the Holy Spirit’s work in preaching.

The Pastors School schedule also includes opportunities for fellowship and recreation, and special programs for children and youth.

For registration information, including cost and complete schedule, call (205) 726-2731 or visit the website at www.beesondivinity.com.
