British journalist and author Melanie Phillips
will speak at Samford University Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 4 p.m. in the
moot court room of Robinson Hall law building.
Phillips, known for her columns on political and social issues which appear in London’s
Daily Mail newspaper, will speak as part of the Cordell Hull Speakers Forum sponsored by Samford’s Cumberland School of Law.
She is the author of The World Turned Upside Down: The Global Battle over God, Truth and Power (2010). Her 2006 book,
Londonistan, became a best seller in the U.S. and Britain. In
1996, she received the Orwell Prize for Journalism, a major British
award for political writing.
Her Wednesday lecture will focus on issues such
as the rise of transnational jurisdiction and the use of human rights
law as a weapon of secularization. The public is invited.
