'Honoring the Body' Topic of Inaugural Fowler Lecture at Samford University

Posted by Mary Wimberley on 2005-04-13

Dr. Stephanie Paulsell, author of Honoring the Body: Meditations on a Christian Practice, will present the inaugural Marie NeSmith Fowler Lecture in Christianity, Women and Leadership Studies at Samford University Monday, April 18.

The public is invited free of charge to the 7 p.m. lecture in A. Gerow Hodges Chapel.

Dr. Paulsell, associate dean for ministry studies at Harvard Divinity School and an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), is coeditor of The Scope of Our Art: The Vocation of the Theological Teacher.

Honoring the Body, part of the best-selling "Practices of Faith" series, draws on Christian and Jewish scriptures and traditions to offer guidance for cherishing the human body and countering corrosive cultural messages.

The lecture series honors Mrs. Fowler, of Hartselle, a Samford graduate, pharmacist and longtime church and community leader. It supports the mission of the Christian Women's Leadership Center, a joint venture of Samford and the Woman's Missionary Union, in providing learning opportunities for women to realize the fullest measure of their gifts in all areas of human endeavor.
