Fourth-Graders to Learn About Clean Water at Samford

Posted by Mary Wimberley on 2004-10-21

Samford University will host the second annual Jefferson County Water Festival Monday and Tuesday (OCT. 25-26). About 1,900 fourth-grade students from Birmingham City and Jefferson County schools will attend. Planners expect about 950 students each day of the festival.

"Clean + Clear = Safe Water" is the theme. Activities will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. each day. During sessions in Samford's Sciencenter, students will learn about different parts of the water cycle and why each is important to life, the importance of keeping the underground reservoir free of pollution, how nature filters water, and what they can do to keep water clean.

The students will also enjoy a water-related magic show presented by the Fishing Magician in Wright Center Concert Hall.

The Water Festival is sponsored by a variety of area businesses, governmental agencies, and environmental and conservation groups.
