'Old Song Sing-Along' Set For October 3 at Samford

Posted by Mary Wimberley on 2004-09-14

The public is invited to an Old-Song Sing-Along at Samford University Sunday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. in Reid Chapel.
The afternoon of congregational singing will feature great hymns and longstanding gospel favorites. Admission is free.

The congregation can join in the singing of such favorites as "Victory in Jesus," "I’ll Fly Away", "He Keeps Me Singing," "Just a Closer Walk with Thee," and many more. There will be ample time for those attending to suggest favorites for singing.

Samford music faculty member Bob Burroughs, well-known composer and church music clinician, will direct the singing.

Frank Jones, music associate at Calvary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa and longtime pianist for the Alabama Singing Men, will be the piano accompanist.

The Student Ministries Choir will perform several selections and a faculty octet will sing "Just a Little Talk with Jesus." Octet members are basses Thomas Corts and Morgan Ponder; tenors Randall Richardson and Paul Hall, baritones Mark Baggett and Tommy Tarvin, and leads Hugh Floyd and Timothy Banks.

The Sing-Along, patterned after a popular event held for the first time last fall, is sponsored by the Samford Auxiliary and Samford Student Ministries.
