Posted by Mary Wimberley on 2004-03-30

Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist will address students at Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law Thursday (APRIL 1) at 11 a.m. in the moot courtroom of Robinson law building. The public is invited.

Crist, a 1981 Cumberland graduate, was elected Florida’s first Republican attorney general in November, 2002. On his first day in office, Jan. 7, 2003, Crist launched the state’s first-ever hotline designed to address complaints of fraud. During that year, he also worked with the Florida legislature to pass landmark legislation in the areas of civil rights, prescription drug adulteration and identity theft.

He is a former general counsel to the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, a member of the Florida state senate, and an attorney in private practice in Tampa, Fla. Crist was appointed deputy secretary for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation in 1999 before being elected Florida’s education commissioner, a post he held from January 2001 until January 2003.
