Assistant U.S. Attorney General to Speak At Samford

Thomas L. Sansonetti, U.S. Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) of the Department of Justice, will address students at Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law Thursday (JAN. 22).

Sansonetti will speak on the enforcement of federal environmental laws at 11 a.m. in the moot courtroom of Robinson law building. The public is invited.

His appearance is co-sponsored by Cumberland’s Cordell Hull Speaker’s Forum and the Birmingham law firm of Bradley, Arant, Rose & White.

The ENRD is responsible for litigation on behalf of the U.S. regarding pollution prevention and clean up, environmental challenges to federal programs, stewardship of public lands and natural resources, federal acquisition of property, wildlife protection, and Indian rights and claims.

Prior to being confirmed to his post by the Senate in November, 2001, Sansonetti was an attorney in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he specialized in natural resource and environmental law. His legal practice has encompassed water law, Endangered Species Act, surface mining, Indian law, natural resource damage assessments, takings, public lands management and Superfund.
