Samford Step Sing Set for Feb. 20-22
Samford University students will present Step Sing, their annual music and dance competition, Feb. 20-22. Performances are at 6 p.m. on Thursday and 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Eleven groups will compete for Sweepstakes honors based on music, choreography and creativity. The public is invited.
This year's Step Sing philanthropy will focus on the needs of Perry County. About 35 children from Perry County, including members of the Lincoln School Choir, will be special guests at the Thursday performance. Each of the competing groups will contribute educational materials and money to be used in Perry County through Sowing Seeds of Hope, a faith-based community development initiative of the Alabama Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
Samford's roots go deep in Perry County, where the school was founded as Howard College in Marion in 1841.
Step Sing tickets are $8 and $10 for Thursday (Feb. 20) and $12 and $14 for Friday and Saturday (Feb. 21 and 22). For tickets, call Ticketmaster at 715-6000.
Proceeds from ticket sales will support student scholarships and this year's campus philanthropy, Habitat for Humanity, as well as the Sowing Seeds of Hope project.
Steven Elliott, a senior exercise science and sports medicine major from Columbus, Miss., is Step Sing director.
