Dr. Loyd Allen to Present Nelson Lectures at Samford

Dr. Loyd Allen will present the Dotson M. Nelson, Jr., Lectures on Religion in Life at Samford University Sept. 30-Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday and 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday. All lectures are in Reid Chapel. The public is invited. “What is Authentic Spiritual Growth?” is the topic of this year’s lectures.

Dr. Allen is professor of church history and spiritual formation at McAfee School of Theology, Atlanta, Ga.

A former Christian Studies department chair at Mississippi College, he is the author of two books, Crossroads in Christian Growth: The Bible and Personal Crisis and Gift Quest: A Search for Spiritual Gifts.

He helped create the W. H. Whitsitt Baptist Heritage Society, which he has served as president.

The annual lecture series honors the late Dr. Nelson, who was longtime pastor of Mountain Brook Baptist Church.
