Bart Campolo To Lead Samford Urban Missions Emphasis Week

Posted by William Nunnelley on 2003-10-23

Bart Campolo, founder and president of Mission Year, will lead an Urban Missions Emphasis Week program at Samford University Oct. 28-30.

The program will focus on America's urban crisis and what the urban church can do to minister to inner city people. Campolo's organization sponsors internship programs for young adults in Atlanta, Chicago, Oakland and Philadelphia.

Campolo will speak at 10 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday and at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday--all in Reid Chapel. He will also speak Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Beeson Divinity School on "Thy Kingdom Come: Fighting for Love and Social Justice in the Real World." All sessions are open to the public.

Also scheduled are a City Leaders Panel Tuesday and a Pastors Panel Wednesday--both at 4 p.m. in Brock Forum.

The City Leaders Panel will feature Birmingham police chief Annetta Nunn, Whatley Elementary School principal Michael Wilson, Family Court referee Andra Sparks and University of Alabama at Birmingham fourth-year medical student Katie Reeder Hayes.

The Pastors Panel will include Timothy Lovett, Huffman Baptist Church; Gerald Clarke, New Hope Baptist; Lawton Higgs, Church of the Reconciler; and Gerald Austin, Sr., New City Church.

Urban Missions Emphasis Week is sponsored by the Student Ministries Office.
