Samford University’s Department of Geography will host a symposium on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Wednesday (NOV. 19), 3:30-5:30 p.m. in departmental offices on the second floor of Beeson University Center Annex.

The public is invited to learn about the field of GIS, which focuses on computer-based solutions to problems involved in the collection, synthesis, analysis and communication of spatially related information within a geographic area. GIS provides tools for governance, commerce and environmental and social science.

Student GIS projects will be on display. Professional GIS analysts and managers will discuss GIS activities in a variety of public and private organizations. For information, call (205) 726-2109.
