Posted by Mary Wimberley on 1999-04-21

The Society of Christian Philosophers will hold its Eastern Regional Meeting at Samford University April 22-24. "The Foundations of Morality" is the theme.

The meeting begins Thursday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Reid Chapel with a keynote address by Dr. Ralph McInerny, Director of the Jacques Maritain Center, Notre Dame University. His topic is "Natural Law and the Limits of Disagreement."

Lecturers include Dr. Stephen Evans, Dean of Research, Calvin College, speaking on the topic "Divine Authority and Ethics in Kierkegaard's 'Works of Love'" Friday at 7 p.m. in the Flag Colonnade Room, Beeson University Center.

The three-day event concludes with University of Alabama at Birmingham philosophy professor Dr. James Rachels speaking on the topic "What Can Ethical Theory Tell Us About Human Life" Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Reid Chapel.

The Society seeks to promote fellowship among Christian philosophers and to stimulate study and discussion of issues which arise from their joint Christian and philosophical commitments. The SCP sponsors the journal Faith and Philosophy.

The Birmingham meeting is held in association with Samford's Department of Religion and Philosophy. For information, call department chair Dr. Dennis Sansom at 870-2839.
