Borden Named Samford's New Dean of Freshmen
Dr. Amanda Borden has been named Dean of Freshmen at Samford University. Dr. Borden, a Samford faculty member since 1989, will also continue some of her duties as assistant professor in the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre.
In her new post, Dr. Borden will be the "chief faculty advocate" for student success, according to Samford Provost Dr. James S. Netherton.
Responsibilities include Samford's summer orientation sessions, freshman seminar, advising of all "undecided" students, the S.U.ccess program and numerous other student adjustment, mentoring and academic support programs.
Dr. Borden has been involved in restructuring Samford's core curriculum and expanding the Communication Resource Center. She has also been an active participant in the university's nationally-recognized Problem-Based Learning initiative.
Dr. Borden holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Alabama, and a Ph.D. in speech communication from the University of Illinois.
Samford enrolls some 4,600 men and women from 40 states and 30 nations.
