Samford University to Host Family Weekend

Posted by Mary Wimberley on 2000-09-21

Samford University will host Family Weekend Sept. 29-Oct. 1. More than 810 family members of about 325 Samford students have registered for a weekend of informative and fun activities. Families who have pre-registered represent states from California to Maine.

Events begin with a Friday (SEPT. 29) dinner and entertainment by the Samford Theatre improvisation troupe, "A View Askew."

On Saturday morning, Samford President Thomas E. Corts will lead a question and answer session. Information sessions for parents will cover topics such as the Cultural Perspectives program, pre-medical and pre-law advising, career development and Samford's London program. Younger relatives can participate in games on the campus. Campus organizations will host afternoon open houses.

A tailgate party will precede Samford's 6 p.m. football game against Nicholls State in Seibert Stadium.

Activities conclude on Sunday with a 10 a.m. worship service led by student ministries director April Robinson, followed by brunch.

Jim Kelley, a junior from Opelika, is Family Weekend chair.
