Posted by Mary Wimberley on 2009-09-04

Former U.S. Solicitor General Gregory G. Garre will address students at Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law Thursday, Sept. 10, at noon in the moot courtroom of Robinson law building.

His topic will be “Representing the Interests of the U.S. and the Supreme Court.”

Garre held the post that supervises and conducts federal litigation in the U.S. Supreme Court during 2008-09 after serving three years as deputy solicitor general. He formerly practiced with the Washington, D.C. firm of Hogan & Hartson, where he headed the firm’s Supreme Court and appellate practice section. He has argued 25 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

He has served on the faculty of his alma mater, George Washington University Law School, in the areas of constitutional law and the Supreme Court.

Garre’s Cumberland visit is sponsored by the law school’s Cordell Hull Speaker’s Forum. The public is invited free of charge.

Ryan Stringfellow, a third-year law student from Clermont, Fla., is speaker’s forum chair.
