The Alabama Supreme Court and the Court of Civil Appeals will hear oral arguments at Samford University Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Wright Center.

The event, sponsored by Samford's Cumberland School of Law and the Birmingham Bar Foundation, is open to the public. Call to order will be at 9:10 a.m.

At 9:30 a.m., the nine-member Alabama Supreme Court will hear arguments in Shelby County Commission v. Russell Bedsole, et al. Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Charles R. Malone will preside.  The case deals with the relationship between the County Commission and the sheriff and Law Enforcement Personnel Board on budget matters, specifically salaries and pay raises.

The five-member Court of Civil Appeals will hear arguments in Carolyn Sue Christopher v. Charles Phillip Christopher, beginning at 11 a.m.    William C. Thompson is presiding judge.   The case concerns the constitutionality of a law that requires parents to provide support for college education to children of a marriage terminated by divorce.

The courts will adjourn at 12 noon.
