Colella Chosen for Washington Post Honor

Samford Unversity junior Abby Colella has been selected as the Journalism & Mass Communication Department’s 2014 Timothy Sumner Robinson Fellow to The Washington Post.

Colella, a native of Athens, Ala., will be spending two weeks in Washington D.C., working in the Post newsroom and learning alongside some of the nation’s top journalists.

“Dr. Ankney encouraged me to apply for the fellowship, but I didn’t know if I would get it” said Colella. “I’m very excited for this new opportunity.”

Colella is a journalism and mass communication major with a concentration in print media and a minor in social entrepreneurship and non-profit management. She in on the staff of Exodus magazine and is a columnist for The Samford Crimson. She is also involved with the Student Activities Council as a member of the PR committee.

Samford and The Washington Post established the Timothy Sumner Robinson fellowship program in 2006 in honor of Robinson, a late Samford alumnus and former Post reporter. The program also brings a nationally recognized Post columnist to Samford each year.
