Three Samford University students won first place awards in 2009 regional student production competition sponsored by the National Broadcasting Society (NBS).

Winners are: Jordan Gotfredson, Best Radio Sports Story; Jacqueline Long, Best Radio News Wrap; and Lauren Womack, Best Radio Magazine.

All are journalism/mass communication majors. Their award-winning productions aired on Samford radio station WVSU 91.1 FM, and are eligible for national competition.

Gotfredson, a sophomore from Duluth, Ga., won for her sports update segment on the Spotlight Samford news program.

Long, a freshman from Union Point, Ga., won for her report on a student bus trip to Orlando, Fla., in conjunction with the Samford vs. Central Florida football game.

Womack, a junior from Spanish Fort, Ala., won for her Spotlight Samford program on “The Age of Lincoln.” The segment included an interview with guest lecturer and author Orville Burton.

Twelve colleges in the southeast make up Region 3 of the NBS organization of student and professional broadcasters.
