2014 Homecoming Registration Opens Aug. 29
Registration opens Aug. 29 for Samford University’s 2014 homecoming celebration, set for Oct. 31 – Nov. 1.
Highlights of the weekend schedule are the football game against Concordia College, a bonfire and pep rally, the homecoming parade and the annual homecoming banquet.
The classes of 1964, 1989 and 2004 will be having special reunion events during the weekend. The Golden Bulldog Club – graduates from 1964 and earlier – will have their annual gathering on Friday. Other special celebrations include a 30th anniversary celebration for Daniel House, Samford’s London Study Centre, and the 50th anniversary of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Many organizations are planning pregame tailgate activities.
A special event that was added to the schedule just a few days ago is an evening with Samford alumni and Emmy Award-winning actor Tony Hale. At a 7:30 p.m. Saturday event in Brock Recital Hall, Hale will discuss his Hollywood experiences and talk about his recently-published children’s book. Registration for this event will be separate from Homecoming and will be available at a later date.
Another special feature of this year’s homecoming is a pet photo contest. Voting will be in the alumni association tent on the University Quadrangle.
The 2014 alumni award recipients will be honored at the Friday evening banquet and throughout the day on Saturday. Alumni of the year are Brenda Mitchell Hackney ’90/’94, Helen Shores Lee, ’87, and Bryan Owens ’81. Outstanding Young Alumnus is Houston Estes ’04.
Registration is available online for all events. Several events will require advance reservations, according to Molly McGuire, Samford’s director of alumni programs. McGuire chairs the university-wide homecoming planning committee.
Football game tickets are available through the Samford athletics department.
“We’re anticipating large crowds for the weekend,” McGuire said. “The schedule is full of interesting and fun activities that should provide something for everyone.”
McGuire encouraged alumni, parents and friends to check the online schedule regularly as new activities continue to be added.
