Joseph Hopkins in Recital At Samford October 7

Baritone Joseph Hopkins, dean of the Samford University School of the Arts, will perform in recital Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Brock Recital Hall. Pianist Ronald Shinn will accompany. The public is invited free of charge.

The program will feature Vision fugitive from Jules Massenet's "Herodiade," Francesco Paolo Tosti's "M'amasti mai?" and Robert Schumann's melodious song-cycle "Dichterliebe."

The poetry for the 16 songs in Dichterliebe is by Heinrich Heine.

Dr. Hopkins has sung leading opera roles with the Dallas Lyric Opera and Operafestival di Roma in Italy, and was soloist for the Mozart Requiem with the St. Petersburg State Orchestra and Moscow Philharmonic. He is founder and director of the Harlaxton International Chamber Music Festival in England. A graduate of Shorter College, Baylor University and Indiana University, he recently completed the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education at Harvard University.

Dr. Shinn joined the Samford music faculty this year after 30 years on the faculty at Huntingdon College in Montgomery. He has judged many piano competitions throughout the U.S., and is on the faculty of the International Institute for Young Musicians. His students have won numerous state and regional competitions.
