The Grammy-nominated Eroica Trio will perform in Samford University's Brock Recital Hall Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m., and will also conduct master classes for Samford students and the public.
The three young women who make up the ensemble are known to electrify a concert stage with their performances of depth and precision.
"The Eroica Trio represents the best of chamber music," said Samford School of Performing Arts dean Joseph Hopkins. "They are the leading trio in the world at this point, and it is well-deserved. Moreover, they are respected as teachers, and we will be fortunate to claim them as part of our faculty for the week."
The Trio won the prestigious 1991 Naumburg Award, resulting in a highly successful Lincoln Center debut, and has since toured the U.S. Europe and Aisa. The Trio's seven critically lauded recordings for Angel/EMI Classics Records have received multiple Grammy nominations.
The Trio's 2007-08 performance tour celebrates its 20th anniversary season, and coincides with the release of the Trio's eighth CD for EMI featuring all-American music.
Their Samford program will include Rebecca Clarke's "Trio for violin, cello and piano," H. Villa-Lobos' Aria from Bachianas Brasileiras (Cantilena), Schoenfield's "Caf Music," and Franz Schubert's "Piano Trio in B-flat major, Op. 99."
The women in the Trio-pianist Erika Nickrenz, violinist Susie Park and cellist Sara Sant'Ambrogio-are all top-ranked, award-winning soloists who have performed on many of the world's great stages.
"Our students will have the opportunity to perform for, learn from and be mentored by these gracious artists," said Hopkins.
On Nov. 13, the musicians will lead a one-hour master class for strings at 10 a.m. and a one-hour master class for piano at 2 p.m. Both sessions are open to the public and will be in Brock Recital Hall. The guest artists will also have additional time with Samford students for lecture and instruction.
One of the first all-female chamber ensembles to achieve the success it has, the Trio took its name, Italian for "heroic," from Beethoven's Third Symphony.
Recital tickets are $25 adults, $20 senior citizens and $15 students/children. Tickets may be purchased at www.samfordartstickets.com For information, call (205) 726-2853.
