Posted by William Nunnelley on 2007-09-17

Neville Callam, the new general secretary of the Baptist World Alliance (BWA), will speak twice at Samford University Tuesday, Sept. 25.

The Jamaican pastor and theologian will speak in Reid Chapel at 10 a.m. and Hodges Chapel at 11 a.m. Both programs are open to the public.

Callam was elected in July to succeed retiring BWA general secretary Denton Lotz. The Harvard University graduate, a specialist in Christian ethics, has been active with the BWA since 1985, and served as vice president of the organization during 2000-2005.

The BWA is the largest Protestant Christian communion in the world with 110 million members.

Callam served formerly as head of the Jamaica Baptist Union. The author of five books, he has served on the BWA Academic and Theological Workgroup, the Christian Ethics Commission, the Executive Committee and other bodies. He was a leading presenter at the BWA Centenary Congress in Birmingham, England, in 2005.
