Beeson Divinity School Awards Student Honors

Samford's Beeson Divinity School awarded top student honors during a special program on May 1. The honorees are members of this year's graduating class at Beeson.

Paul Bryant of Madison, a Master of Divinity degree student, received the Pastoral Ministry Award for high achievement in the study of pastoral theology and the practice of Christian ministry.

Christian George of Birmingham, a Master of Divinity degree student, received the James Earl Massey Preaching Award as the outstanding graduating student preacher.

Rebecca George of Birmingham, a Master of Theological Studies degree student, was a co-winner of the Theological and Historical Studies Award for outstanding achievement in the study of Christian history and theology.

Clayton Speed of Homewood, a Master of Divinity degree student, received the Biblical Languages Award for outstanding achievement in the study of Holy Scriptures in their original language.

Mary and Wayne Splawn, a married couple from Birmingham, were named co-winners of the Distinguished Student Award given in recognition of outstanding and holistic achievement n scholarship, Christian spirituality and ministry involvement. Mary Splawn received a Master of Divinity degree in December. Wayne Splawn will receive a Master of Divinity degree this month.

Sonya Ricketson of Birmingham received the Outstanding Master of Theological Studies Award for outstanding and holistic achievement in scholarship, Christian spirituality and ministry involvement. She is an M.T.S. degree student.

Jason Wicker of Birmingham, a Master of Divinity degree student, was a co-winner of the Theological and Historical Studies Award for outstanding achievement in the study of Christian history and theology.

This year's Beeson Teaching Award for outstanding classroom teaching went to assistant professor Dr. Norfleete Day, who teaches Greek, New Testament and spiritual formation.
