Musical Comedy Explores Inner Lives of “Bee” Contestants

The Michael J. and Mary Anne Freeman Theatre and Dance Series at Samford University will present

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee Nov. 18-20 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 21 at 2:30 p.m. in Harrison Theatre on the Samford campus.

The Tony Award–winning musical comedy by William Finn,based on a book by Rachel Sheinkin, tells the story of a fictional middle-America spelling bee, the six adolescents whocompete and three hilariously insecure adults.

The play takes full advantage of the ability to put individual characters in the spotlight, exploring their thoughts, hopes and home life.

Tickets are $12 (adult), $9 (55+) and $6 (student/child)
