Posted by Mary Wimberley on 2006-10-09

Samford University Theatre's next show, "Feliciana Feydra LeRoux," is based on two books by Cajun writer Tynia Thomassie. The Theatre for Young Audiences production runs Oct. 26-29.

In a musical visit to the colorful and unique culture of southern Louisiana, the production follows the adventures of Feliciana as she learns the importance of family and forgiveness.

Thomassie's books, Feliciana Meets D'Loup Garow: A Cajun Tall Tale, and Feliciana Feydra LeRoux: A Cajun Tall Tale, were adapted for the stage by Samford Theatre department chair Don Sandley, with permission from Pelican Publishing Company. The books are targeted for children ages 4-8.

Jamie Ruppert of Snellville, Ga., is cast in the title role. Daniel Mills of Evansville, Ind., performs the male lead role of Grampa Baby.

The musical score, to be performed by a live band, was written by Samford junior theatre major Matt Godfrey of Hoover.

Performances are Oct. 26-28 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m. in Bolding Studio, located in Swearingen Hall. Tickets are $5 student/child, $7 senior citizen and $8 adult.
