Celebrated Imani Winds To Perform April 12
by Sean Flynt
Samford's Davis Architects Guest Artists will present an evening with Imani Winds Tuesday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Brock Recital Hall.
The Grammy-nominated quintet, founded in 1997, has played in some of the nation's most important concert venues and maintains a strong dedication to education and outreach programs. In 2010 Imani Winds established a Chamber Music Institute at Julliard. This year they have expanded that event to form the free and public Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival.
The group is noted for its dedication to commissioning and performing new music, and for enlarging the traditional wind quintet repertoire to include diverse cultural influences. Their numerous honors include the 2002 CMA/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming.
Imani Winds members include: Valerie Coleman, flute; Toyin Spellman-Diaz, oboe; Mariam Adam, clarinet; Jeff Scott, French horn; and Monica Ellis, bassoon.
Concert tickets are $20 (adult,) $15 (55+) and $10 (student/child). Purchase tickets online or call (205) 726-2853.
