seotyCamille Kathleen Mula, a senior accounting major from Mandeville, La., is Samford University’s 2011 Student Employee of the Year.

Mula, who has worked in the Samford office of admission for three years, received a certificate and a $200 cash prize from Samford president Dr. Andrew Westmoreland during a special ceremony Thursday, April 14.

Students employees were nominated by their supervisors based on contributions they make in their work areas.

Mula was cited for her reliability, quality of work, initiative, attitude and professionalism in her job as tour guide, front desk receptionist and office assistant. As president of the Student Recruitment Team, she is the student facilitator for many on-campus recruitment events.

“Whether brainstorming to come up with a new way to offer campus tours for 250 families simultaneously, or volunteering to get to the office at 5:45 a.m. on a Saturday to put out signs before an event, Camille continues to take the initiative to make sure the job is done to make the event a success,” wrote her nominator, associate director of admission Elizabeth Primm.

“Her dedication and performance make her an outstanding student leader who embodies the true meaning of Samford’s mission and core values.”

Samford dean of admission Jason Black praised her trustworthiness. “If she says she will do something, she does it,” he said, adding that Mula is the perfect fit for an office that deals with prospective students and their parents.

Other finalists for the Samford honor were Chelsea Megan Byrd, Erin Elizabeth Eachus, Matthew Dale Groves, Taylor Elise Hancock, Hiba Karim Matalka, Benjamin Gene Meadows, Matthew Aaron Roberts, Nicholas Preston Smith and Leah Danae Vaughn.

Samford participates in the student worker recognition in celebration of National Student Employee Week, a program sponsored by the National Student Employment Association.  Mula’s winning Samford nomination will be submitted in regional competition.

Samford employs about 950 student workers, including some 350 who work through federal work study and community work service programs at off campus non-profit agencies.
