Nurse Anesthesia
Application packets must be received no later than June 1st. Interviews are held the following August, and classes begin the following January. Admission decisions will be based on overall GPA, GRE scores, recommendations, personal interview, and duration and type of work experience Exception to any of the admission requirements will be considered on an individual basis. - Completed School of Nursing Graduate Program Application.
- Completed Department of Nurse Anesthesia Applicant Information form.
- Signed Performance Standards for Admission and Progression form
- Current Photo.
- Non-refundable application fee of $35. This fee is waived for Samford graduates and previous applicants. Make checks payable to Samford University.
- Copy of current unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- Two official transcripts in sealed envelopes from ALL colleges and universities attended (must show proof of bachelor of science in nursing from an NLN or CCNE accredited program). You must request that these transcripts be mailed directly to you.
- Three completed recommendation forms. The forms must be submitted in sealed envelopes signed across the seal by the recommender. The three recommendations required are: one academic, one supervisor, and one professional colleague. References should attest to the applicant’s academic ability and potential.
The following criteria are also necessary for admission consideration:
- Official GRE score from testing agency. Samford code is 1302. Department code is 0610. Minimum acceptable combined score is 1000 within the last 5 years.
- Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
- Minimum one year full time acute care experience as a Registered Nurse. Acceptable experience includes Cardiac Care Unit, Cardiovascular ICU, Cardiovascular Recovery, Medical ICU, Neuro ICU, Neonatal ICU, Surgical ICU. Burn ICU, Trauma ICU, Pediatric ICU. Non-acceptable experience includes Emergency Department, Recovery Room, and Operating Room.
- Pre-requisite courses are general Chemistry and Research, both with a grade of “B” or better.
- International applicants or American citizens who learned English as a second language must score at least 550 (paper), 213 (computer) or 80 (internet) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
- Computer proficiency.
