Inauguration of President Andrew Westmoreland

Academic Athletics – Peter Neuberger (left), senior associate director of athletics, and Robert L. Roller, director of athletics, prepare to participate in the procession for the Nov. 2 investiture ceremony. Pray-er – Henry Cox dons his academic apparel for the inauguration procession.  Cox, a Samford graduate and then-president of the Alabama State Baptist Convention, delivered the invocation.
Color Guard – The Air Force ROTC color guard stands at attention on Centennial Walk before leading the academic procession to the investiture ceremony in Wright Center Concert Hall. Chief flagbearer – Senior class president D.J. Carter had the honor of carrying the United States flag, one of 117 representing the states and countries where Samford students and/or alumni live.
Procession – More than 450 participated in the inauguration procession, including faculty, staff, program personnel and delegates from about 85 institutions and other organizations.  Music from the Rushton Memorial Carrillion accompanied the procession. Flags – Students carried flags of the 117 states and countries where Samford students and/or alumni live as part of the inauguration procession.  The flags lined Centennial Walk.
Macebearer – Retired faculty member W. Mike Howell was selected to carry the university mace for the Nov. 2 investiture ceremony.  Howell was a faculty representative on the presidential search committee that recommended new Samford president Andy Westmoreland. Color – The fall foliage on Shades Mountain provided a dramatic and colorful backdrop for the colorful pageantry of the inauguration procession from Harwell G. Davis Library through Centennial Walk to the Wright Center.
Music – The Samford Choral Union and University Festival Ensemble provide the entrance music for the investiture ceremony in Wright Center Concert Hall. Lisa McNeal, president, Staff Advisory Council

Inauguration breakfast – Delegates and other special guests enjoy breakfast in the Beeson University Center Dining Hall prior to the Nov. 2 investiture ceremony. Icy welcome – A beautiful ice sculpture created by Campus Dining, Inc., graced the buffet tables for the inauguration breakfast.
Friendly chat – Vice President for Facilities Don M. Mott visits with Birmingham attorney Harold Williams on the University Quadrangle following the investiture ceremony. Williams and his wife, Elouise, are Samford alumni honoris causa. “Sweet Home Alabama” – Guests enjoyed Milo’s tea and Moon Pies, both Alabama-made products, at the inauguration reception on University Quadrangle.
 
Greetings –Andrew Westmoreland received hundreds of official greetings and congratulations from other institutions and organizations in celebration of his inauguration as Samford’s 18th president.  The greetings were displayed for inauguration guests.
