Long-time Samford University donor and Samford Auxiliary member Frances Horner Brown (center) of Birmingham was escorted to the Samford Philanthropy Dinner by son Blaine and daughter-in-law Diane. Mrs. Brown’s late husband, Ben, was a long-time University trustee.

Samford University life trustee A. Gerow Hodges (right) is introduced to new Samford school of business dean Beck Taylor and his wife, Julie. Hodges and his wife, Mary Louise, are Samford graduates and have provided the endowment for a speaker series in the school of business.

Ruth and Homer Lloyd of Birmingham represented the former Ruhama Baptist Church at Samford University’s 2005 Philanthropy dinner. Ruhama disbanded several years ago, and members have provided several scholarships and supported several Samford projects.

1955 Samford graduate Bonnie Bolding Swearingen (second from left) of Chicago provided an unexpected highlight of the annual Philanthropy Dinner with the surprise announcement of a major gift to the University’s school of performing arts. With Swearingen at the dinner are (from left) her sister Margie Bolding, Samford President Thomas E. Corts, Marla Corts and her sister Jane Bolding Llewellyn.

Samford University graduates Mel and Elizabeth Deason of Birmingham enjoy the University’s annual Philanthropy Dinner. Mel Deason is the class agent for the Class of 1957 and is actively involved with the Samford Alumni Association.

Melissa Cochran (left) and Tammy Koelz represented Walgreen’s stores at the Samford Philanthropy Dinner. Walgreen’s provides significant annual support for Samford’s McWhorter School of Pharmacy.
