About Political Science

Political Science provides a fascinating mix of politics, history, theory, and current events. It is a lively and interesting program of study.

Political Science is an effective track to future work and study in areas such as Law, Public Policy, International Affairs, and groupGovernmental Service.

Political Science provides the basic skills most often associated with Liberal Arts education. Writing, public speaking, collecting and assessing data, critical reading, independent thinking, and civic responsibility are central parts of the program.

Political Science faculty are well placed to assist students with internships; in Washington, overseas, Montgomery, Birmingham, and elsewhere. They are active in helping students obtain fellowships from graduate schools and national foundations.

The Political Science features Professors Fred Shepherd, Bill Collins, Randolph Horn,  and Andrew Konitzer. Political Science plays a central role in International Relations and Public Administration programs. And it collaborates with a wide variety of Departments throughout Samford.
