James R. Barnette, Associate Professor and Director of Preministerial Scholars
Dr. Barnette concentrates his research in the areas of preaching, Christian worship, and ministerial ethics. He received his B.A. from Samford University and his M.Div. and Ph.D. from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has contributed to journals including Review and Expositor, Preaching, and Journal of the American Academy of Ministry. He is co-author of
Homely Joys, a Collection of Prayers and Poems with his father, Dr. Henlee Barnette, a longtime professor at Southern Seminary. At Samford, Dr. Barnette teaches courses in Bible, Preaching, Christian Ministry, and Missions. He also oversees the Samford Preministerial Scholars program. Dr. Barnette also serves on staff at Brookwood Baptist Church as the Teaching Pastor. He is married to Deanna and has a daughter and a son. Their daughter currently attends Samford.
