Two of Samford's Division of Music faculty members and one guest performer will present free public recitals next week.
Faculty member and pianist Kathryn Fouse will present a lecture recital titled “Excursions in American Music of the Past Century” Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m in
Brock Recital Hall. This program will survey various musical styles from the 20th century as represented by American composers – including works by Samuel Barber, Henry Cowell, Philip Glass, George Crumb and George Antheil.
Faculty member Jay Evans (alto and tenor trombone, bass trumpet and euphonium) and pianist Joanna Sobkowska of Florida F & M University will present a recital Thursday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Brock Recital Hall. Their program will include Vincenzo Bellini’s “Concerto pour Trompette et Orchestra,” Gunnar de Frumerie’s “Sonata for Trombone and Piano,” Richard Wagner’s “Leb’ wohl!” from Die Walkure, Leonard Bernstein’s “A Simple Song” from Mass, and J.B. Arban’s Fantasy and Variations on “The Carnival of Venice.”
Both events are free of charge and open to the public.
