Public Events: Hundreds Expected for Ride Through Historic Black Belt

The Old Howard 100 Bike Ride winds through the Black Belt.More than 200 cyclists and 50 volunteers are expected to participate in Samford’s 4th Annual Old Howard 100 Bike Ride on Saturday, April 19.

The ride will begin at 9 a.m. on the campus of Judson College and wind through Perry and Hale counties, some of the state’s most beautiful and historically rich countryside. The wisteria and honeysuckle will be blooming, and there’s nowhere better to enjoy a beautiful spring day than in the part of central Alabama where Howard College began.

Routes of 30, 50, 70, and 100 miles are available and are fully supported by the Cahaba Cycles van and additional vehicles.

Proceeds from the ride will help Sowing Seeds of Hope serve individuals newly diagnosed with diabetes, hypertension, or kidney disease and who need help purchasing medicine or being transported to a dialysis site. Proceeds from the 2007 ride--$3,000--went directly to patient care.
