Top Honors for Undefeated Women’s Tennis Team

The Samford women's tennis team finished the Ohio Valley Conference regular season undefeated this week and will enter this weekend’s OVC Championships as the number-one seed. The team will receive a bye to the semi-finals because of its high standing in the conference rankings.

This week the OVC also named first-season Women’s Tennis coach David Vest OVC Coach of the Year and named player Taylor Morgan Freshman of the Year. Morgan, a 2008 All-OVC first team pick, is the first Samford player to be named OVC Freshman of the Year.

Three Samford players were chosen for the All-OVC second team - freshmen Lindsey Mallory and Andrie Meiring and senior Katie Weaver.
Both the Samford men and women will try for their first OVC Tournament Championships in Nashville April 18-20. The men will play their first match on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Belmont University against the winner of the Eastern Kentucky and UT-Martin contest. The women will play their first match at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Tennessee State University against either Murray State or UT-Martin.
