"... The honor marks the second time Samford has taken home the Women's All-Sports Trophy..."
Samford was awarded with the Ohio Valley Conference's Women's All-Sports Trophy, the league announced on May 29.
"Winning the All-Sports Trophy is a goal of ours annually as an athletics department," Samford director of athletics Bob Roller said. "It signifies broad-based success and consistency for our women's programs. Our soccer, tennis, basketball and cross country programs score very high each year, but it was our golf and softball teams that carried us to this award in 2007.
"The All-Sports trophy is one of the most coveted awards presented at our annual spring meetings, and all of Samford women's athletics should take pride in this honor."
The honor marks the second time Samford has taken home the Women's All-Sports Trophy, as the Bulldogs won the award in 2003-04.
This year, Samford won the award with 72 total points, four ahead of second-place Jacksonville State. Samford won women's conference titles in soccer and tennis, receiving 11 points for each of those sports. The women's cross country team earned 10 points, while the softball and golf teams earned nine points each and the women's basketball team earned eight points.
Samford finished third for the Men's All-Sports Trophy with 57.5 points. The men's tennis team led the way on the men's side with 8.5 points, while outdoor track, baseball and cross country earned eight points each.
The All-Sports Trophies, symbols of overall athletic excellence in Conference-sponsored championships, will be presented at the league's annual Honors Luncheon in Nashville held on June 1.
