Samford two-time All-American cross country runner Lauren Blankenship kicked off a winning week for the university's women athletes.
On Nov. 10 Blankenship qualified for her third trip to the NCAA Championships as she finished third in the NCAA South Regional race. She ran the 6K course in 20:45.23. The Championships will be held Nov. 17.
On Nov. 12, Samford's soccer team again made history with a milestone achievement as the Bulldogs earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. With the record-setting accomplishment, Samford (15-4-1) became the first team in Ohio Valley Conference history to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
A victory over Florida State University on Nov. 16 would allow the team to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The regional final match will be held Sunday, Nov.18.
More good news followed on Nov. 13 when the women's basketball team defeated The University of Alabama, 48-46, in the first regular-season game in the new Pete Hanna Center. The victory was Samford's first-ever win over an SEC opponent.
