"...The game is scheduled to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 29..."
Samford's Ohio Valley Conference contest against Southeast Missouri, originally scheduled for Oct. 1, has been moved to Sept. 29, and will air live on ESPN-U, Director of Athletics Bob Roller announced Thursday.
"This deal was put together by (Samford Associate Director of Athletics) Jay Roberson during his first week on the job with us," Roller said. "It's a great opportunity for us to have the Birmingham market to ourselves that night and to kickoff a big sports weekend at Seibert Stadium."
"We are excited about having Samford on national television," Roberson said. "It is a great recruiting tool for our program. It is also a great way to get the Samford name, and our corporate sponsors' names, out to the public. Hopefully, this will be the first of many national broadcasts."
The game is scheduled to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. at Samford's Seibert Stadium. The game will mark the first time Samford football has appeared live on the ESPN network.
"Anytime you get a chance to be on an ESPN broadcast, you can't turn the opportunity down," Samford Head Coach Bill Gray said. "It will be a short week for us, but it will be for SEMO as well. We are used to that, and we have dealt with that in the past. We are excited to be able to put our players on television, and in the homes of potential recruits. We want to get the Samford name out any way we can, and as often as we can."
Samford will open the 2005 season on Thursday, Sept. 1, when the Bulldogs play host to Edward Waters College. Kickoff for the season-opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.
