"... The Bulldogs will open play in the 2005 OVC Tournament on Nov. 4...."
Samford's soccer team earned its third-consecutive Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title on Oct. 23 as the Bulldogs defeated the Austin Peay Lady Govs, 4-1. Since dropping a 1-0 decision versus Murray State on Oct. 9, the Bulldogs have reeled off consecutive wins against Eastern Illinois, 1-0, Southeast Missouri, 3-1, Tennessee Tech, 2-1, and Austin Peay. On Oct. 28 the team added a 2-0 victory over the Belmont Bruins for a school-record 14th match. Lauren Faubion scored both Bulldog goals in that match and subsequently was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week.
"Since our tough loss to Murray State, I think that the character and attitude of this team has really come together and we're playing some of our best soccer right now," said head coach Todd Yelton. "I'm extremely proud of this group of ladies," he added. "We've had to deal with our share of adversity this season, but they've done a great job of focusing on the task at hand and they've turned the conference season into a huge success."
The Bulldogs will open play in the 2005 OVC Tournament on Nov. 4, on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill. Samford will be the top-seeded team in the four-team field and will play the winner of Murray State and Austin Peay.
Samford joined the OVC in 2003 and has won three-consecutive regular-season titles. The Bulldogs have compiled a 21-4 conference record over the last three years and have advanced to the championship game of the OVC Tournament twice.
