W.O. BEAUCHAMP L'66 died July 19, 2000, of kidney cancer. He was circuit court judge in Chiefland, Fla., and a former county judge for Levy County, Fla. During his judicial career, he served in all divisions of the court system, including criminal, probate, civil and family law.

RAYMOND EARL BOX '57 of Birmingham died Aug. 19, 2000. A former Samford football player, he was in the automobile business for 25 years and was a self-employed accountant. He was also a 25-year member of the Birmingham Football Officials Association.

IRENE HUMPHRIES BRITTON '62 of Jasper died Sept. 20, 2000. She was a medical technologist at People's Hospital in Jasper for 30 years.

MARY LOY CAVALERI '51 of Birmingham died June 16, 2000. She taught in the Tarrant school system for more than 25 years.

Rev. JAMES ALBERT CHAMBERS '32 of Birmingham died July 18, 2000. He was a retired Baptist minister and missionary who started 20 missions that are now churches, mostly in Washington, Oregon and California.

MARY LENA TAYLOR CHAPMAN '36 of Birmingham died July 12, 2000. She was a Delta Zeta and a retired English teacher.

JAMES E. GROGAN '63 of Hortonville, Wisc., died June 27 of injuries from a cycling accident near his home. He earned a doctorate in health care administration at the University of Mississippi and taught at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Minnesota. He worked in hospital administration in New Orleans, La., Chattanooga, Tenn., and Fort Worth, Texas. He was an avid cyclist who had ridden in a number of countries around the world.

EUGENE FRANKLIN GURLEY '43 of Birmingham died Aug. 13, 2000. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 37 years of service.

ERIN WALLACE HARRELL '34 of Austin, Texas, died July 13, 2000. She was at one time a medical technologist at
the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Dr. ERNEST GRAHAM HARRELL, Jr., '52 of Orange Beach, formerly of Gadsden, died March 20, 2000. He was a retired Army chaplain and pastor who served churches in Oklahoma and Alabama.

JOHN WESLEY HAYNES '30 of Talladega died July 15, 2000. He taught at the North Carolina School for the Deaf and the Alabama School for the Deaf. He was principal of the Alabama School for the Blind, a field agent for the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind, and counselor with Alabama Vocational Rehabilitation Service.

HOWARD F. G. HINSON, Jr. '38 of Newport News, Va., died Sept. 19, 2000. A former varsity football and basketball player, he was vice president­purchasing
and a board member of Noland Company, retiring in 1979 after 36 years of service. He was a past president of the Southern Industrial Distributors Association. He was a recipient of the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award.

Ana Elizabeth Huckaby, daughter of Ana and TODD HUCKABY '86 of Santiago, Chile, died Dec. 22, 1999, at age two.

MICHAEL L. HYDER '76 of McMinnville, Tenn., died July 12, 2000.

VICTOR PAUL KESTER '64 of Roswell, Ga., died Aug. 30, 2000, of cancer. He spent 30 years with Mayer Electric Supply, most recently as executive vice president and general manager of the Georgia division.

Rev. ROBERT DAVIS MAYTON '52 of Tuscaloosa died Sept. 7, 2000. An ordained Baptist minister, educator, coach and insurance executive, he was top salesman in the U.S. in 1969­70 with Life and Casualty Insurance Company. He helped found Walter Avenue Baptist Church, Selma.

MYRTLE G. PALMER '35 of Downingtown, Pa., died Aug. 25, 2000. She was an art and penmanship teacher who was active in arts and music organizations.

HAROLDINE "Deedie" JOHNSON ROSS '63 of Orlando, Fla., died July 10, 2000. She was church pianist, director of choral groups and vocalist at churches in Tennessee and Florida.

BILLY JOE SHEFFIELD L'73 of Dothan died Sept. 8, 2000, of a heart attack. An attorney, he was a former county, district and judicial circuit judge.

EDWIN PAYNE SWAN '70 of Quinton died Aug. 23, 2000. He was a retired schoolteacher and coach in Jefferson County. After his retirement, he worked as a recruiter for the American Federation of Teachers.

SUSAN LEIGH CHAMBERS WEIR '71 of Birmingham died Aug. 30, 2000. She held a master's degree in hospital administration and worked at various hospitals in Birmingham. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
