Alabama Awards Corts Doctorate

Samford President Thomas E. Corts has received an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from the University of Alabama, citing his work “for educational integrity and constitutional reform.”

The degree was presented at Alabama’s summer commencement August 12, at which Corts was the speaker.

“Dr. Corts’ work for educational integrity and constitutional reform demonstrates both the breadth of his vision and the depth of his concern for improving the quality of life available to all individuals,” said Alabama Provost Nancy Barrett.

UA Interim President J. Barry Mason noted that Corts “worked to set and strengthen procedures for accreditation” as president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. “The hallmark of his leadership is a passionate insistence on accountability.”
