Janet Alexander (Nursing) presented a paper, "Authentic Assessment of Baccalaureate Student Outcomes Through the Nursing Portfolio," at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing National Baccalaureate Education Conference in December.

Charles (Bo) Cole (Law) presented a paper, "Sovereign Immunity and the Civil Liability of the Federal Government of the United States," to the Federal Judiciary of Brazil in Brasilia in November.

Dr. Hajo Drees (World Languages and Cultures) had his book, Rainer Maria Rilke: Autobiography, Fiction and Therapy, accepted for publication in the series, "Studies on Themes and Motifs in Literature," by Peter Lang Publishing Inc.

Michael Floyd (acting dean, Law) served on the American Bar Association site evaluation team for Appalachian School of Law's application for American Bar Association accreditation.

Dr. Eric Fournier (Geography) published an article, "The Geography Benchmark: A View from the USA," in the Journal of Geography in Higher Education.

Dr. Clara Gerhardt (Human Sciences and Design) presented a paper, "The Development of Course Portfolio in Teaching a Problem-Based Learning Course," co-authored by Dan Sandifer-Stech (Human Sciences and Design), at the International Conference on PBL in Linkopping, Sweden, in September.

Michael Hartline (Business) was appointed a member of the editorial review board and book editor of the Journal of Relationship Marketing.

Dr. John Mayfield (chair, History and Political Science) published an article, "George Washington Harris: The Fool from the Hills," in The Human Tradition in Antebellum America.

Gretchen McDaniel (Nursing) was invited to help revise the curriculum for the Basic Preparation of Parish Nurse course of the International Parish Nurse Resource Center, Meizhou, China. She and Susan Rice (Nursing) also presented lectures to nurses in Haikou, Hainan and Meizhou.

Dr. Valerie Prince (Pharmacy) was elected a member-at-large of the American Pharmaceutical Association Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management,

Bill Service (Business) published a paper, "Building Competitive Advantage Through Information Systems: The Organizational Information Quotient," in the Journal of Information Sciences.
