Central Campus

Located in the heart of Samford's beautiful campus is the Central Campus housing area. The majority of freshmen students make their home in Central Campus, making the area lively with their new discoveries and relationships. Along with a small number of involved upperclassmen, the freshmen of Central Campus live and learn together in three residence halls: Smith, Pittman, and Vail Halls. The dedicated residence hall staff of one Residence Life Educator, two Resident Managers, three Senior Resident Assistants, and thirty Resident Assistants work to keep Central Campus a safe and fun place for dreams to blossom.

Room Information

Mattresses - The mattresses in Vail and Pittman are regular twin size (approximately 36" X 74").The mattresses in Smith measure approximately 36" X 78". Most regular twin sheets will fit the beds, but we recommend that you retain the ability to return any twin sheets until you have tried them in the room.

Room Sizes - The" average" room size is approximately 12' X 12'. Smith and Pittman fourth floor rooms and Vail sixth floor rooms are smaller (12' X 10' including the closet but with an additional "cubby hole" space of about 3' X 6'). Even the "average" room sizes vary and these measurements are approximate, so please be prepared to adjust your plans when you arrive and see your room. For instance, Vail hall has approximately 22 different room configurations, so hardly any room can be considered "average". Please use the 12' X 12' figure as a very general guideline only.

Window Sizes - The average window dimensions are approximately 56" wide by 67" long. Larger windows (83" long) are in Vail 404 - 407, 451 - 456; Smith 201 - 209 and 251-258; Pittman 1st floor and 203 - 206. Smaller windows (approximately 3'2" wide by 4'4" long) are on Vail sixth floor and Pittman and Smith 4th floor.

Bathrooms - Community baths for Smith and Pittman: All fourth floor rooms.
Private baths for Smith and Pittman: Smith 102 and 152, Pittman 105, 212, 302, 316, and 317.
All other Smith and Pittman baths are suite style.

All Vail baths are community style with the following exceptions:
Suite baths: 404, 405, 452, 454, 503, 505, 553, 555
Private baths: 101, 151, 204, 254, 312, 360, 418, 451, 453, 467, 502, 506, 551, 552, and 554.

Beds:
Smith - Beds are lofted in Smith and can be lowered or bunked.

Vail - Beds are raised but not lofted. They can be lowered, bunked, or lofted. In the raised position, the dimensions for the space under the bed are as follows: 74" from headboard to footboard; 30" from floor to springs under mattress; 35" depth. The typical set-up places the chest underneath the bed. So that you may figure the remaining space under the bed if you place the chest under it, the width of the chest is 30" and the depth is 28".
