The Currency of The Bahamas

Bahamian Currency

The stability of the Bahamian economy is due in part to the Bahamian Dollar.  In order to facilitate more fluid economic transactions the Bahamian Dollar has been pegged on a 1:1 ratio to the U.S. Dollar.  The U.S. Dollar and the Bahamian Dollar are used interchangeably throughout the islands.

The Tax System of The Bahamas In an effort to attract foreign investors the tax system of the Bahamas is geared towards business.  Income is afforded tax-free status under the law.  In addition, there are no taxes placed on corporate earnings, sales, dividends, capital gains, or inheritance.  To further facilitate an atmosphere of conducive trade a number of investment incentives have been created:

Collectively these Acts afford relief from customs duties for designated ray materials, equipment, and building supplies and allow for exemptions from business licenses and real property taxes for up to twenty years.  However, the Bahamian government, like any other government, does have to levy some taxes like the Stamp Tax on Property Conveyance. There are some import & export duties, a motor vehicle tax, gaming tax, tourism tax, and miscellaneous industrial taxes from which the Bahamian government collects money.  However, the government gathers a good portion of its revenue from the Real Property tax.
