Faculty Research Interests

Repair and regeneration of Siamese fighting fish (bettas) fin injury is presently under investigation. Techniques for the culture of these cells are being examined. This work includes: cell culture techniques, examination of types of cellular development utilizing light and electron microscopy, microdissection of cellular types, fractionation of cells, analysis of carbohydrate, lipid (phospholipid), protein, and nucleic acid components using LC-MS. Cellular assembly, blastema formation, and fin regeneration with correlations to fundamental biochemical changes are are currently being studied.
