SAACS meetings occur on alternating Thursdays of every month in the Seminar Room, SCI 345 from 4:00-5:00 pm. Meetings alternate with the departmental seminar schedule.

Undergraduate Research
If you are interested in participating in undergraduate research in chemistry, check out the research areas of the various Chemistry Department faculty and then contact the faculty member whose research interests you the most. You can find information on the various research projects by first clicking the "Faculty" link in the menu on the right-side of this webpage, then navigating between the different faculty member webpages at that link.
If you prefer a summer research experience at another site, contact the Chemistry Department chairperson, Dr. Morgan Ponder.
SAACS Membership
To join the Samford SAACS Group, see Dr. Denise Gregory or Dr. Brian Gregory for a SAACS application. Membership is open to Chemistry and Biochemistry majors and minors.
Bylaws of the Samford University Chapter of SAACS
Article I. Name
The name of this organization shall be the Samford University Chapter of Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society.
Article II. Objectives
The objectives of this Chapter shall be to afford an opportunity for students of a chemical science to become better acquainted, to secure the intellectual stimulation that arises from professional association, to obtain experience in preparing and presenting technical material before audiences, to foster a professional spirit among the members, to instill a professional pride in the chemical sciences, and to foster an awareness of the responsibilities and challenges of the modern chemist.
Article III. Membership
The membership of this organization shall be composed of Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society. Students who are not Student Affiliates may attend chapter activities but may neither hold office nor have voting power.
Article IV. Officers
The officers of this Chapter shall be a President, a Vice President, and a Secretary-Treasurer, who shall constitute the Executive Committee. The officers shall be elected at the first meeting in September from nominees chosen by nominations from the floor. They shall take office in September and shall hold office for one year or until their successors are duly elected.
Article V. Duties of Officers
The chapter president acts as the primary coordinator for all chapter activities. The vice president acts for the president when the president is unavailable for chapter activities. The secretary-treasurer records minutes of the meetings, handles chapter correspondence, submits an organized set of chapter records to the faculty advisor at the end of the year, and handles the finances of the Chapter.
Article VI. Faculty Advisor
A member of the chemistry faculty will be appointed by the Chair of the Chemistry Department as Faculty Advisor for the Chapter. The Faculty Advisor shall be a member of the American Chemical Society. The Faculty Advisor shall advise the Chapter both in its local activities and in its relations with the Society. The Advisor shall be kept informed of all Chapter activities and shall advise the Chapter on any policy matters.
Article VII. Meetings
Regular meetings shall be held once a month. Special events may be arranged through the Executive Committee or the Advisor.
Article VIII. Dues
Each member shall submit dues to the Faculty Advisor who will forward them to the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society. No additional dues will be collected by the Chapter.
Article IX. Annual Reports
The chapter shall send to the ACS Office of College Chemistry an annual report of its activities. This report shall be submitted on the Student Affiliates Chapter annual report form sent to the Chapter in the Spring. The Society shall be informed promptly of the results of all elections of officers and Faculty Advisors.
Article X. Amendments
These Bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members, provided that the amendments shall have been proposed at least one meeting previous to the time of voting. Such amendments shall conform to the ACS regulations established for Student Affiliates Chapters.
