Speech Contest
The Communication Arts Faculty sponsors an annual speech contest. From instructors' nominations of students who gave the best proposal speeches, winners are chosen through a speech elimination judged by outstanding communication professors on campus.
Communication Arts had 30 speakers compete in the 2008 Speech Contest:
First Place Winner: Jennifer Houston, "Samford students should be abstinent"
Second Place Winner:
Devyn Keith, "We should be aware of racism in the media"
Finalists:
Kate Freeman, "Samford's School of Nursing should encourage students to minor"; Hugh Smith, "We should combat childhood obesity"
